Community as Collage

by Jeffrey Perek

Communities aren’t broken things
Any more than
Soil or your family line
Are dead or broken trees
We are seas
The universe
As it eddies
We’re patterns
In steam
In raked light
We’re quarks to quarts to quirks
And if a brick wants to be an arch
I want to be here with you
We’re not pieces
We’re pieces like art
Only alien if cut out
Each layer means its own
We are a collection of wholes
The holistic disparate unified
Community is collage
